Was Seth actually up for a good sixteen hours in bed with Caleb? He'd just had a seventeen hour shooting day that ended, oh, six hours before Caleb was set to arrive. Still, Seth seemed to have plenty of energy left for this hookup.

If you could call it a hookup. It was an intimate plan for such a casual one, the long stretch of time to unwind and make out and have sex and stay close together, naked in bed, like actual lovers. It was a far cry from NYC app hookups that lasted maybe 20 minutes, but then, maybe things were different out here.

But then maybe it was different because Caleb had seemed to look at Seth and know him, and their vibe had been strong, and their chemistry great, so: why not explore it?

So Seth slept for five hours and ten minutes, showered and threw on jeans and a tee, ate two bananas, brushed his teeth, and even answered two emails before he had to buzz Caleb in. Was that a flutter in his chest? Hard to say!

Caleb still couldn't quite believe this was happening. But Katie had showed up at his house bright and early to babysit Scottie, so he couldn't bail now. He told Katie to call him if they needed anything, no matter what she knew he'd be doing at the time, and he reassured Scottie that she could call him to come home whenever if she wanted him to. But after he told her about her birthday present--that Katie was gonna do a mural in her room and Scottie could ask for anything she wanted in it and help design it--it was like he didn't exist. Scottie took a few seconds out from jumping up and down to hug Caleb goodbye and then took Katie's hand and dragged her off to her room to plan her masterpiece.

As he drove to Seth's place, he tried very hard not to let his thoughts wander to all the things that might trip him up. Step 1: Ignore the ethical questions about hooking up with someone who doesn't know about your past lives and who has a husband in said past life, because you don't have an answer. Step 2: Stop worrying about whether spending the day in bed with someone before you're sure you're ready to actually date them is cruel, or a mistake, because you're both consenting adults who want it. Step 3. Focus instead on how very, very attracted to this man you are and kiss the hell out of him as soon as he opens the door.

At least he nailed step 3.

Yes, this was how Seth should be greeted every time he opened the door. He was actually breathless, caught a little by surprise by Caleb's moves -- which, if they were rusty, he was still yet to see hard evidence of same. "Well hello," Seth said, when the kiss broke, stars in his eyes. "The fantasy arrives."

He didn't know what it was about Seth that made him feel so...comfortably himself, but there was no denying he did. "No, I think the fantasy was already here," Caleb countered with a small smile, otherwise very focused on dragging his thumb down over Seth's bottom lip. "Hi."

What else could Seth do but playfully nip at that thumb? “Come in, come in, let’s close the door on the rest of the world.”

That was exactly what he both needed and wanted, yes. Caleb stepped inside and closed the door behind him, all without leaving Seth's space. He was feeling a little addicted to it already, being able to feel his energy, but maybe he was imagining that, or maybe it was just Alex leaking through.

There he was. There they were. Seth felt soothed and inflamed at the same time, which he couldn’t explain but didn’t mind in the least. “I’ve been waiting for this,” Seth told Caleb, running a hand down his chest.

"I've been thinking about this all week. You are very distracting," Caleb admitted, equal parts fondness and annoyance in his voice. His thoughts wandering to Seth and their plans all the time might have been inconvenient, but that didn't mean he didn't enjoy it.

“I better be,” Seth answered, casually pulling his shirt over his head and tossing it wherever it might fall. “That’s what I’m going for with you.”

"I still don't get why, but I'm not complaining. And it's definitely working." Caleb stripped off his own shirt before pulling Seth close enough to kiss. He didn't. "My showers take a lot longer now, you know."

"I hope you're having more than one a day," Seth replied with a slow grin, "Like strength training for today." But he was genuinely flattered, pressing both hands against that gorgeous bare chest.

"I could very easily end up with a world record water bill if I'm not careful," Caleb agreed, then kissed Seth again--long and slow, luxuriating in it. "Now where's that bed I was promised?"

Sleep would never have been better than this. "Keep kissing me like that and I'll tie you to the bed so you can't leave." Caleb stepped back reluctantly, though it was worth it -- he led the way to his neat, clean space of a bedroom. "Your bed, Caleb."

"Is that supposed to discourage me?" The first thing Caleb did was take his phone out of his pocket and put it on the bedside table. It was already silenced except for calls from Katie or Scottie's phones, and with it set aside in a safe place, he could go back to focusing entirely on Seth.

"Why would I want to discourage this handsome, thoughtful man from touching my body?" Seth grinned, and, without pause, removed the rest of his clothing. "Speaking of, what would you like to touch first?"

Caleb sat down on the edge of the bed to take off his shoes, but very quickly got distracted. "I swear to god my brain shorts out every time you get naked because every possibility is a great possibility." He shook his head as he finally tore his eyes away from Seth long enough to get his shoes off and reach for the fly of his own jeans. "I wonder if I'll ever get over that."

"I hope not." Seth sat comfortably beside Caleb on the bed, leaning back on his elbows, lounging. Encouraging, of course, more looking.

As if Caleb could stop looking if he wanted to. He shucked off the rest of his clothes and leaned over Seth, all his weight on one arm so he could skim his other hand down Seth's side from shoulder to knee. "I don't know, there might be some virtue in decisiveness. It's not like I could get tired of looking at you."

Seth loved to be touched like this: with appreciation, sure, but with intention and approval. No wonder, right; he was an actor after all. "Says the handsome construction worker god."

Caleb laughed lowly, shaking his head. "I'm no god." He'd known gods, and god-like mutants, and he'd never been either. "I'm much better at worshipping than being worshipped."

"By all means, don't let me stop you from worshiping me," Seth replied, though he watched Caleb curiously. "Still, you should know how goddamn attractive you are."

"As long as I'm attractive enough to keep you here, that's all I need to know." Between that and the kiss that followed--a hungry, adoring, dizzying kind of kiss--Caleb had probably said more than he meant to. More than he realized, even.

That was an astounding — and particular! — kind of kiss! Seth loved it, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to tease, gently. “I think you might have a crush on me.”

"I'm beginning to think that, too," Caleb confessed, trying not to be embarrassed by just how much that had taken him by surprise.

“To be clear: I’m happy about it, mysterious and kind almost-stranger.” Seth kissed him sincerely. He didn’t know Caleb very well, but he felt known, and it was a specific, unspeakable kind of feeling.

Well, at least he had that going for him. "Am I mysterious?" he said, half to himself and half genuine question. "And I notice you didn't mention whether you had a crush on me back."
