Because Zach's salary was tony, his apartment was tiny. In turn, so was his bedroom, and much of it was taken up by the bed itself, which was a modest full that didn't leave a ton of extra space.

So he definitely, definitely noticed when someone climbed in with him in the middle of the night.

"Clint?" he sleep-mumbled, because if it wasn't Clint, he was going to be extremely alarmed.

Steve actually couldn't remember the last time he'd dated. He'd tried a few times early on, but it never felt right. He was an old-fashioned sort of guy with an old-fashioned sort of way about him. He was also frankly terrible at picking up on cues, fumbling what he assumed most other men his age would have been able to handle with something approaching ease.

Knowing what he knew now, it all made more sense. Some things, he guessed, never changed.

But then, he thought, sitting on the little restaurant terrace patio waiting for Joel, some things really do.
