One of her little cousin's birthdays was coming up, so Cora went to the toy store to look for a present. Sure, she could have gone to a big box store and found something, but she wanted a bigger selection. And sure, she could have gotten that online, but what fun was shopping for toys online? The whole point of toy stores was to check out the toys, and Cora might be too old to need any of the toys she'd find there, but that didn't mean she couldn't borrow them for a little while. In the name of research.
She had, naturally, invited her best friend along, because if anyone could help make a trip to the toy store an adventure, it was Charlie. They'd already been in the store an hour, but efficiency wasn't the goal here--fun was. After playing some video games on tester consoles and a game of hide and seek with a kid whose mom seemed to be having a time of it at the customer service desk, they were no closer to finding a present for Cora's cousin, but they were definitely having a ball.
They had both chosen their favorite tiaras in a very pink aisle, and now Cora was fleeing around a corner, laughing, as Charlie pretended to blast her with her sparkly, be-ribboned magic wand. Luckily Cora had ended up in an aisle with an assortment of toy weapons, and after skipping over a large section of militaristic guns, found the fantasy section. And what better to fight a magic-wielding princess than the exact thing Cora pulled off a middle shelf: a sword.
