True, Dominic hadn't expected to spend his whole night studying. But then, he hadn't expected to finally break through the shy, self-effacing walls of the darling librarian, either. At any rate, Dominic was for once ahead on his reading, and a couple of hours into it, he had gotten so absorbed that he almost forgot he was playing a long eye-flirting game with Gavin. Suffice to say, the books sometimes won.
Still, it was nearing one, Dominic shook off the spell of the books and stood. A few long, healthy stretches were in order to get the blood flowing (and if they happened to show off the long shapes of his body, and if Gavin happened to be looking, well, what a bonus).
Dominic had always liked these late/early hours, where the world quieted down and felt almost magic. There was an edge, but also a comfort, to be found in the dark. Especially if you had the right company.
He used a series of elaborate hand gestures to indicate to Gavin that he would meet him outside (more stretching! Good for the heart, and his heart was full tonight), and he breathed that night air and smiled at the moon and thought, hey, it's pretty nice to be alive.
