She couldn't stop thinking about Katie. Everything else in her life was messy, and complicated, and hard, but every time her thoughts drifted to Katie it was like they'd found this warm, bright spot in the midst of everything. Dani didn't know what she was doing, didn't know if this was a date or just...she didn't know what else it could be, really, but she was flustered. So she reminded herself that Katie had said she'd wanted to see Dani again, and she'd been excited when Dani asked to come over. So this had to be the right thing, right? Whatever it was?
The rideshare dropped her out front, and Dani nearly forgot her purse in the car, but she finally managed to get herself together enough to knock. When Katie answered the door, Dani was nervously tugging on the hem of her sleeveless lace-edged top. "Hi."
